HCMH strives to provide the most current up to date information to our service community and educational resources. This forum was developed to aid the HCMH service community in developing healthier lifestyles and to help fight the national war on obesity. Since the early 1970's the obesity rate in both children and adults has more than doubled and with these rising obesity trends diseases associated with obesity has almost doubled as well.

Being obese or overweight increases your risk for many other diseases including:

Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint)
Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides)
Type 2 diabetes
Coronary heart disease
Stroke
Gallbladder disease
Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
Some cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)

While the Center for Disease Control and Prevention have been focusing and building initiatives to help reduce the rate of obesity it is continuing to get worse. This site provides a variety of information designed to help people understand this serious health issue and the efforts being made to address it.
