Our History
Hopkins County Memorial Hospital, a 96 bed facility, has served the citizens of Hopkins
County for 63 years. Memorial Hospital is dedicated to providing medical care to the
30,000 residents who live within the 800 square miles of Hopkins County and neighboring
counties. Our vision is to be the leader in Northeast Texas by offering high quality
hospital physician services that meet the healthcare needs of our region and that our
patients will recommend to others.
Supported by a staff of more than 40 physicians, Memorial Hospital offers a wide
spectrum of services including a full service
emergency department that is staffed 24 hours a
day and a mobile intensive care ambulance
service. The hospital's Intensive Care Unit
includes 10 beds (six critical care beds and
four step-down beds). Other specialty services
include inpatient and outpatient surgery,
diagnostic imaging, pathology, obstetrics,
physical medicine and rehabilitation, intensive
care, and respiratory therapy. Specialists on
either active or courtesy staff provide services in
cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, oncology, orthopedics,
otolaryngology (ENT) pediatrics, pulmonology,
and urology. Other
outpatient services include sleep studies,
nuclear stress testing, pulmonary function
testing and a catheterization laboratory.
Hospice at Memorial provides care for
terminally ill patients and their families. It
is a hospital-based, physician-directed,
nurse-coordinated home care approach to the
special needs of the terminally ill patient.
Memorial Hospital's Women's Pavilion includes
eight labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum suites,
two surgery suites and a Level II nursery. The
Day Surgery Department features a pre-admit
clinic for day-surgery patients, operating
rooms, gastroenterology procedure rooms and
urology procedure rooms.
The Center for Acute Rehab Excellence
(CARE) Unit at Memorial Hospital is a 10-bed
acute, inpatient rehabilitation program located
on the lower floor of the Women's Pavilion. The
CARE Unit provides quality, comprehensive care
for those recovering from brain injury, stroke,
major multiple trauma, amputation, degenerative
neurological disorders, orthopaedic injury,
arthritis, spinal cord injury, burns and
congenital deformities.
Memorial Medical Plaza is a
32,000-square-foot medical office building
housing the new Healthplex at Memorial, a modern
outpatient physical rehabilitation center that
offers comprehensive rehabilitation services
including a therapeutic pool. The additional two
floors accommodate physician offices.
In 2006 Memorial Hospital opened the Wound Care at
Memorial Center, a comprehensive center for
wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Our
specially trained staff at the center is
dedicated to providing comprehensive treatment
using the most technologically advanced wound
care therapy. In addition, we will provide
valuable education to the patients and
caregivers to assist with problem wound
management. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is used as
an adjunctive treatment for problematic,
non-healing wounds that meet specific criteria,
and it is expected that 20% of the wound care
cases will meet those criteria.
Memorial Hospital completed a
$36 million expansion in the Spring, 2010. This
expansion created a new, much larger emergency
department and all private rooms. All of the
current patient rooms and support areas on the
second and third floors were gutted and
remodeled. A new front entrance, lobby, gift
shop and communication area were part of this
expansion project. The expansion encompassed
27,959 new square feet and 39,098 renovated
square feet.
Memorial Hospital began a partnership with
Dr. Jeffrey Gladden with Advanced Heart Care.
This partnership offers a full range of cardiac
services to the citizens of Hopkins County. The
program includes a diagnostic cath lab, where
people who are otherwise healthy but have
symptoms that warrant a closer look can have
testing done.
The program provides interventional
procedures, such as stents and balloons to help
clear blockage in blood vessels in the limbs and
coronary procedures. Treatments such as
pacemakers and implantable defibrillators are also
available. "We provide nuclear
cardiology, echocardiograms and the peripheral
vascular testing that goes along with a
full-scale cardiac program," says McAndrew.
On November 1, 2010, the Hopkins County
Hospital District and the Hopkins County
Memorial Hospital finalized the integration of
Memorial Physician Services and Sulphur Springs
Medical Surgical Clinic. These two clinics are
now operating under the new name Memorial
Clinic. The parent company, Hopkins County Physician
Services, will oversee the operation of the new
Memorial Clinic.
Memorial Hospital's Mission statement is to
provide an exceptional patient experience
through quality patient-centered care and a work
environment that attracts and retains the best
staff, physicians and volunteers.
The values we share at Memorial Hospital and Memorial Clinic are service,
